I think the ford/cummins comment was a joke.
My brother had a 84 that ran hard with a ats turbo kit and tuned by a local diesel shop. He sled pulled it a couple times and pulled a trailer quite a bit. It ran hard for the times. He ran right with his boss's 97 stroker. Granted it was stock.
I am actually looking at getting a 6.9 to put in my dad's 79 ford. After a turbo and more fuel goes in.
