my girlfriend has a 94' CC/LB dually w/ the 7.3 IDI in it. the gear for the injection pump is hitting the front cover when it is running. is the front gear to the pump bolted and keyed the the front of the inj. pump? also, have any of you expierenced this problem? if, the pump does need to be replaced how to i keep this gear in time? and help will be appreciated. Thank you

The gear is keyed and bolted with three bolts to the gear. If the gear is hitting the housing, the bolts must be loose. If it suddenly stopped running and will not start, the input shaft of the IP may be snapped.

Never remove the housing to replace the IP. There are timing marks on the IP gear and on the cam gear. The mark for the IP is a "Y" and you should make sure they are aligned if you think the gear has jumped time. There is also a "o" stamped on the cam gear and is it for the crank gear, not the IP gear. Check out oilburners.net for a ton of IDI info.
