97 TDI Passat thermo

Does anyone know where this little basterd is hiding? We have checked all the obvious place and looked it up twice. Says back of the head but is not there, look on the the front, not there.

Thermostat? Follow lower rad hose where it connects to a 90* housing on motor held on by 2 10mm bolts. Pull those bolts and you find tstat.
