At least it's a sign and a turn toward the future!

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Cummins Inc. is recalling about 270 workers to a central Indiana factory as it adds a second shift to meet a temporary increase in orders for Dodge Ram turbo diesel engines.

The company said Wednesday that plans are to start the new shift at the Columbus MidRange Engine Plant on Oct. 18 and continue it through the end of the year.

Columbus-based Cummins shut down the plant and laid off 720 employees in May after Chrysler stopped vehicle production during its bankruptcy proceedings.

The company resumed production at the plant in July and will have about 600 people working there once the new shift starts.
