I'm looking into putting steel wheels and hubcaps on my truck because I like the look. If I'm right the original one are 6 inches? How wide of a tire can you safely put on these?

I had 285s on one of my trucks, they weren't terrible.

But a little bit wider rim would have been better

Just FYI Discount tire will not mount a 285/75/16 on a 6 in wide rim because it's listed as needing a 6.5 rim minimum. I wanted 285's on my dually rims, they would not budge on policy.

My 93 came with 235/85's would be the biggest I would run on them any bigger and they get squirelly as heck

Buy ford steel rims from a pre 99' 8 lug truck. I think they have the correct backspacing and are wider (8"?) They only made a gazilion of them so they should not cost to much.
