Fuel problem

I have a 97 F250 and need to know what sets off the fuel filter light? I got on the interstate last night taking my 7 week old for a ride so she would go to sleep, once I got up to speed the fuel filter light came on. Before I could make it to the next exit the truck stalled like it ran out of fuel. I replaced the filter and got it started again, but when it hits about 1800RPM the light will come back on when running the front tank. If I switch to the rear tank it will run to red line without the light popping up. Which makes me think something is in the front tank pick up or in the line. I cant look at it till sat but I wanted to see what others though.

if it is a tank issue you may have a broken pick up in the tank I hade one brake and it would act like it was running out of fuel @ 1/4 tank.so I repalced both (the other one was cracked anyway)
