Wondering if lbz rods in my lb7 is a good way to go for a cheaper build and if I need to have the motor balance?

No real gain in going from one stock rod to another. They might handle a little more power, but not much.

They are said to be 15-20% stronger than lb7/lly. I would get it balanced, the weight is different between them as well

A machine shop...

If you're doing a stock rebuild, go with the LBZ rods and have your pistons delipped. An LBZ rod will definetly hold more power....but it's still a stock rod.

Any machine shop should be able to do it. Or you could call guy at socal diesel.

LBZ rods can hold about 100 HP more than LB7/LLY. If you going to stay with a single stock cp3 you'll be fine to go this route, if your planing on dual fuelers you could bend them easily depending on tuning.
