So i bought the fifth gear nut with retainer and the retainer wont slide all the way onto the nut. That ends up not allowing the rear housing to seat all the way onto trans. Kinda stumped !!!!! Seems like to me the splines are not long enough on shaft. Anybody ever run into this.

But you didn’t replace the shaft? Is that an original shaft?
