painting chevy emblem

I am wanting to take off the chevy emblems on my grille and tailgate and paint them black to match my truck. Has anyone done this or know how to take out the emblem without breaking it? I am not even sure it can be taking out, but any input I would appreciate it

Not sure about the tailgate but my 04 just unbolted from the front grill. I actually went with a gloss black vinyl rather than paint. It's holding up much better than paint and if I ever want to change it I just peel the vinyl off and put a different color on.
