transmission problem

I have a 93 dodge and we picked it up from a friend, it shifts from first through third and nothing after that does anyone know what could be causing this?
 
unless it has an overdrive tranny swapped in. i'm pretty sure it only has three gears. if it has an overdrive tranny then check power at the plug on the tranny.
 
i am pretty sure it is a stock tranny, i dont know much about the truck because it was a junker, would it be something with the computer, or curcit board or does the tranny not work off of that?
 
the speedo doesn't work. What is the VSS?

The VSS is most likely the cause then. The "Vehicle Speed Sensor" is located on the transmission on a 2wd truck, and the transfer case on a 4wd truck.

You can try to unplug it and clean it and see if that works, but if not, you may need to replace it.
