Tst for an 03 wiring question

I'm trying to wire up the tst in a custom application. I know the manual says orange to fuse 27 an red to fuse 50, but I'm not using the ram fuse box. Does anyone know what the tst is looking for for each wire. I assume one is key on power.

This is in an 03 Dakota with painless wiring harness.

Looks like fuse 27 was constant power and fuse 50 was key-on power.

My next question is why not have it tuned with HP Tuners? That would result in more driveability than a Smarty/TST.
 
I am planning to go with an hp tuner but at the moment $$ is tight an I'm just trying to get it drivable before crap weather shows up lol this is just temporary. I agree this isn't the best setup anymore. Thank you for your reply. When I get a few mins I'll see if I can get it going with that.
