I just picked up a 99 golf and I am new to the VW. Where should I start? I am not going to go crazy but I am looking to do something to it. I know that the timing belt will be getting changed soon, I inspected it and it looks fine but I doubt it has been changed and it just rolled over 114,000 miles. So where should I look first at performance? Chip/Tuner? Injectors? Thanks.

I am going to assume stick shift here.

Plan on a clutch at some point down the road, but for now a rocketchip, Kerma or Dieselinside tune would be the most bang for the buck. Then injectors, then a clutch, then a hotter tune....... you get the idea LOL The TDI club has some great info on these lil dudes, I strongly reccomend going there and reading some, well worth it.

Oh yeah, when you get ready to do the belt gimme a shout, I have the complete set of tools needed and I'll be glad to rent them out.

It is actually the Auto trans, I found the tdi club and started to read there also, thanks. Do you know where the best place to pick up a new belt?
