What to use to race?

Ok I had a 1997 Dodge and worked it up to 13.5's with 6" lift raced it some and sold it. wanted something smaller.

#1 2008-2010 Ford 6.4 two wheel drive single cab
First choice any one want weigh in on why or why not its a good idea?

If I was going to build a truck to race and have fun with, I would start out with a reg cab long bed 4x4 6.7 Cummins Auto. Swap in a 48re, EFI Live, S467, Medium sized injectors, head studs, etc. and lower it just a smidge. In my opinion the 4x4 is much easier to run 11+ second quarter's because you have to do literally nothing to the suspension. The 2wd would be lighter for sure but you really have to get it tuned in right to run consistent quarters.

This is my opinion. The engine choice is up to you, any of the new common rail engines will make power easily enough, I would choose the Cummins because I am familiar with it.

The real question is, how fast do you want to go? To me anything slower than 11.50 would still be considered a streetable/daily driver truck. 11.49 and quicker you'll need all the required safety equipment to run LEGALLY at any sanctioned event.
That being said if I were doing a true "race truck" build I'd look for a regular cab, 4x4, '06 or early '07 Ram with a blown engine. Swap in a fully built 6.7 Cummins long block, add 366/484 compounds, dual stroker cp3's, 225% percent over injectors, phat shaft 48re, cage, 5 point harness, gut the interior....:blahblah1:

Anyway, that should get you in the low low 10's, maybe high 9's on fuel and even faster with some spray.

If you will be happy with low 13's high 12's then go with a 4x4 6.4. If you want faster id go with a common rail dodge. And id never trust a s300 on a low 10 high 9 second truck...

if you want to floss at the track in style, LMK, this puppy is most likely going on the bay in the next 4-6wks. Ultra rare, special ordered, fully loaded, regular cab XLT. You'll be hard pressed to find a better optioned regular cab...

power driver seat, full center console, 6 disk, leather steering wheel with radio controls, cruise, power windows/locks, ESOF, BSM'S, rapid/supplemental heat

Truck is in amazing condition. Never had a hitch. Only light scratching inside the bed. Flawless Carfax, etc. etc.

a bone stock 4x4 CCSB lariat will cut high 12's no problem on a good tune. This truck should have a mid 12 in it as it sits on OEM 20's and factory Michelin tires. Drive it to the track in comfort and style, make a mid 12 pass without having to touch a lug nut...

I ALSO have a set of new 71/59 turbos an a Midwest ported intake. that's a solid 75rwhp gain over the current setup. Should get it in the 600-625 range to the wheels. That's a DEEP 12 sec street truck/driver at that point with very little effort (other than the mobnies you pay me for the truck! LOL)

I would use a single cab dually, no Need to tubb unless you got a real big tire. Id pick like 06 6.6 duramax auto. Makes good power and with 5" straight pipe and tune would touch low 13s

thanks guys. I guess 4x4 would be ok with me I just thought I would do a set of dot slicks on the track. I'v got a car to sell first then I'll be off to buy an new er rig to race. If it doesn't sell it may end up the new drag rig. my rig I'm selling is the black nova. If I was more skilled in fab I would attempt a baby of triple threat. ha ha Single threat?? ha ha
