I'm in the process of rebuilding a turbo I have here and I'm considering changing the 65 turbine wheel out for the 68 now the only thought against it is the lack of a wastegate and loss of the 14cm housing

So basicly it'll go on a buddies stockish 06 CR auto and I'm thinking the CR will spool it fine but don't want a noticeably huge lag compared to he351, now on the other hand need drive pressures and egts to drop on the top because we all know the he351 gets hot quick

So should i just stay with the 62/65/14 for spool and wg or 62/68/16 (.91) nongated

i know several people who run the 68 exhaust wheel and rave about it being awesome

I guess my question is more along the line of the .91 housing and how comparable to the 14cm housing (and 65 wheel) it would be... And the aspect of it not being gated

I'm running a 62/68/14.

I went from a 35/40 hybrid to this turbo. The hybrid spooled quicker, no question, but this is right on the heels.

I would NOT run a bigger housing. I think the 14 is plenty, and I would even consider a 12 on a p-pump or vp. For a CR, the 14 should be just right. I don't think you're going to pick up enough cooling over the 14 to justify the potentially laggier spool.

Well I had this turbo on mine once (also stock injectors) it was a 64/65/14 and didn't cool any better at 100 mph than the he351 did IMO, it was Still 14-1500 with a five inch exhaust...

Might be time to go bigger.

something in the 64/71/14 or even 66/71/14 area.

Or twin it and get the best of both worlds.

65 exhaust wheel will get hot, and 12cm housings get hot......for the very small amount of extra lag i would go with the 14 anyday!!!!

and yes the cooling effect of a 14 over a 12 on a p pump is noticeable

Oh no no no this is a long time ago I'm running twins now 73 wheel on top and love it

So the option for this turbo for a stockish 06 CR

A 62/65/14
Or
A 62/68/16 (.91)

And going from a 65 to a 73 on my CR I didnt notice any lag diffrence

The real question is
Will a 68 wheel and .91 housing act somewhat close to the same as a 65 and 14 housing

I thought about placing a .91 t4 housing on my previous 62/68. I never did but now run a 64/71 t4 .91. It's around 300rpms slower than the 62 was which in my opinion isn't bad given I went to a larger turbine and compressor wheel at the same time as the bigger t4 .91 housing. I'd go for it. I'm thinking there's probably a reason Borg Warner makes that housing for the 68 t-wheel.

A friend of mine ran a 60/68/1.10 T4 on his 03 CR. He had 100hp nozzles and ran a TST conservatively (~level 2). He towed with it and said he liked it - the only reason he got rid of it was it did not like his exhaust brake.

Depending on what you define as a "stockish" CR, the 14 would probably be better.

Well it dynoed 502 at the wheels a couple months ago and will continue to have crap added
