98 12v 5 speed,the truck started just fine until i installed fuel plate and cranked the star wheel,now it takes twice as long and sometimes have to bump the throttle 1 or 2 times,what could cause this?:bang

i just bought a 98 12 valve 5 speed.what are some mods i can do that are not to pricey? im new to the diesel world.thanks
