My truck is making a weird noise coming from inside the front cover... From the side of the truck you can't hear the noise but when standing in front of the truck it sounds like a dual disc clutch iwhen it is disengaged.
The sound is very central from left to right and top to bottom. It would almost sound like the fan, but I have checked the fan and it appears to be fine.

Anyone have any ideas on what it could be?? Has anyone ever found a KDP problem in an 01.5??? truck has 217K on it.

Same... That is why I'm asking to make sure I'm not missing something... truck runs fine, temps and pressures all look good.

any suggestions on where to look?

It started very faint and over a 2weeks time has gotten progressively worse

yes it absolutely happens on 24 valves.. Most have only heard of the problem up to 01. But one of the guys on here had it happen to his fathers 02..

what are the symtoms??? does my noise description sound like a KDP??

I've never heard of it making a noise.. If it comes out, it either gets caught in the gears (The dowel pin doesn't give either).. It'll bust out of the crank case, or it will miss everything and drop into the oil pan.

it can drop down between the gear and case and just get rubbed/worn. happened on my '97.

sounds like what's happening to him

Yes, the KDP is an issue for ALL 1st and 2nd gen trucks until they made the new designed timing cover in 01 or 02?? (someone probably knows for sure). I have heard that cover was hit or miss as well.

I would just pull the cover and check. It's not hard or expensive to tab it. It cost me $40 for a new timing cover seal and that was it. I had a tab "donated" to me, but you could just make one from a piece of 10ga or so steel in a couple minutes.

It took maybe 2 hrs and the hardest part was getting the windshield was and antifreeze "jugs" off the fan shroud :hehe:

Considering what can happen if that little thing falls out, it's very worth it!
