Went to start my 02 this morning and the battery was dead. When I jumped it off of my other truck it arked big and the abs pump went to running. I unhooked the batteries and put the charger on them. This evening I unhooked the abs wiring and hooked the batteries back up I had no dash working. It will crank over but not start. I hooked the abs back up and it didn't kick anything on this time.
Could the computer have fried during the night and caused these problems? This truck has not had any problems before except a vp pump going out. I'm at a lose.

I don't mean this in a degrading way. But did you put the cables on backwords at first? Jump starting cars/trucks and doing it backwards causing that problem 99% of the time.

The problems were there before I jumped it. I think the draw when I hooked it up was the abs pump pulling current. We are going to get it in the shop and check all fuses and wiring this morning but I'm sure the pcm is shot.
I did some checking Monday afternoon for a pcm and didn't find any. Seems they may be hard to come by. Does anyone know how interchangable the pcms are from one year to the next? This is my work truck so I have to get it running pretty quick.

I have a PCM and ECM in my garage off of an 01 the PCM is forsale and the ECM is available if you need to borrow it to get you going. Send me a PM if your interested.

I'll know something this afternoon, my mechanic called and said it had a bunch of fuses blown and the ground wire going to the trailer plug burnt up.
I really appreciate the offer and I might take you up on it.
He still can't get it to talk to his snapon computer.

Be carefull when swapping PCM's. If the VIN doesn't match the VIN logged in the ABS module, you will get a check engine light. I went through this. I bought a PCM from an outfit in Florida and they were supposed to program my VIN in it. It came not done and then they told me they couldn't do it. Then the dealer said they could, and couldn't. The dealer can only program the VIN in a PCM if it comes blank from the factory. If it was previously programmed, they can't (at least the bozos around here). I have a contact in IA or IN if you need someone that can properly program one.

Here's what I just found out. The ground wire from the brake controller is burnt up in the wiring harness from where the brake controller plugs in under the dash.
The 140a fuse going to the alternator blew.

Radio and guage cluster fuse was blown.

Snapon computer won't communicate with ecm or pcm.

Snapon computer will comunicate with ABS and body computer.

This truck was parked when all of this happened. I had been using it the day before. We still don't know if the computers are burnt up. I'm going to talk to a friend of mine that a tech at a dealership about it this afternoon. I hate to go to a dealer but he's real sharp at troubleshooting.

Man! I feel for ya. Sounds like a major meltdown! I have a 2/0 cable direct to the battery in my bed for a hydraulic lift I built. I rounded a corner once and a chain slide over and welded itself to the plug as well as about five links to the bed. Needless to say the truck went dead in about 5 miles...dead dead dead. Removed said cable and charged batteries and all was well. I can only wish that type of luck to you!

Really strange on this truck. I had a buddy that's a tech come look at the truck. It blew alot of fuses including the big one on the alternator, and the one going to the ecm for power plus several others.
Checked it all out and nothing was hurt except the ground wire going from the trailer brake controller fried. I took the brake controller off and will get a new one just in case. I also took the adrenaline off and going to send it in just to have it checked out.
I can't believe a truck can blow all of these fuses and for no reason and not hurt anything.

does anyone know where i can get a hold of a '99 5.9 CUMMINS block, my buddy cracked his and we've hunted all over turned up nothing ... he prefers a long block, but i'm sure he'll consider a short ....
