Did a search but didn't really find the exact same senario. Got a friend with an 02 2wd 6spd. It seams it has a dead pedal occationally, but its never consistant with various conditions( hot, cold, first start, middle of a 6hr trip, ect...). Some times it will pic back up after a few second, then sometimes it will not unless you shut the truck down and restart it. Even then Some times it will do it emidiatly after again, or go for a few days with no problems. Truck shows only a 1694 code, no smoke, and idles smooth. In nuetral when this happens it very slowly brings the RPM up. I'm guessing APPS or a Dead VP. Any takers?

I would try unplugging the APPS and cleaning the contacts with some cleaner and re-seating the connector. Then do the same to the ECM. Sounds like a bad connection to me as opposed to a bad APPS or VP.

Now that I've looked up the 1694 NO CCD from ECM, it looks like the bus is dropping out. This tells me it is more likely the ECM conectors. Clean them good and re-seat them. If he has a performance module on it, such as an Edge, Etc, check where the module connects to the ECM diagnostic plug. That connection may be full of muck and shorting the bus signals together.

Here is the bus schematic for an '01. I have an '02 and it appears to be the exact same thing. The CCD bus is a 120 ohm twisted pair that connects the ECM, PCM, overhead console, etc.

Thanks we will check them out. Will report back with results.

well after checking and cleaningthe connections on both the TPS, ECM and PCM, it is still doing the same thing. It done it about 5 minutes after the work was done, but didn't do it again till today about 4 times.

So what next? VP? TPS?

very hard to test. We used break out boxes that you could seperate the ecm, vp44, and apps, at work a few times. Normally ended up being vp.

See if you can find one of those boxes that will power and control the VP for idle and high idle that will seperate it from the ECM. Chances are...you're looking a new VP. It is only a grand. :D

It could also be a bad ecm i know that is what happened to a truck i worked on and it took forever to figure out but it could also be your pump or tps or many of the other sensors

Happened to me a few months ago on my pull truck I ended up cleaning all them connections about five times before I got a good solid signal all the time. Just try it a few more times it's a lot cheaper to by cleaner then parts haha

Did you get this truck fixed? What was the cause? Lemma guess....you checked your grounds and reset the APPS. :hehe:
