hey im about to buy an 02 dodge 2500 4x4 bone stock automatic besides fith wheel in bed and brake controller its at a dealership for 14 and has 160000 miles can u give me info on mpg if it was used to pull with what problems could i have im new to the diesel world and wanting to learn more

Unless its in mint condition, $14K for a 02 with 160K sounds a little high...but it is a dealership. Two things I would look at on that truck, one, its an auto with a 5th wheel and brake controller. Stock autos in the 02 arent that great... if it had alot of miles used for hauling, it might be worn out. Two, as an 02 its prone it lift pump and subsequently, injection pump failure. Try to find out if either has ever been replaced. If you get it, figure a fuel pressure gauge, aux. fuel pump(FASS or Airdog) and some tranny work minimum... I'd figure $2K for the basics if you do it yourself, so figure that into what you offer the dealer...

100% agree with JFlagg about the lift pump issue and transmission. I have an 02 that i bought with 12,000 miles back in 2003. I did not listen when people told me about getting a fuel pressure gauge and an aux. fuel pump - it is a must. MPG could be as good as 20-22 not pulling or hauling anything. Not sure about MPG if hauling. I know when I had my Edge Comp set as an Edge EZ I had my best MPG. IMO for that kind of $$ I would look for an 03 or 04 and pay a little extra and not have to worry with a VP44 injection pump and you get a more solid stock transmission. Good luck.

check everything on the front end for wear and tear. Don't go to a third gen, a little work on a 02 and you will have a nice truck.

i have a bad injection pump now and i have an 02 .i get 12 mpgs around the the city tryin to save that money for a pump

i agree, i would skip the whole vp truck and go to a newer CR.. i just baught an 07 5.9 big horn edition with 170,000 miles on it for $17,500...the trucks are out there, you just gotta be patient...$.02

alright thanks for the info i also found an 08 with 100000 4x4 with the 6.7 its 24,000 definitly at the high end of my budget but its really nice ...is there any issues with the new 6.7 and i saw that alot of people do a dpf delete and a programmer is that a good idea ? or are people just power hungry

I know a few people that have the 6.7, and really like them, but I dont know anything about them really, i think a stock 6.7 get worse mpg then what the 5.9 does...

I have both and my 6.7 is horrible on MPG...i have heard if you delete the dpf and egr **** it gets upwards of 20...thats my next step on mine but other then the MPG i love my truck. It tows the puller and trailer like its nothing and rides nice and drives alot better then my puller
