02 duramax Odd noise

my dad has a 02 4x4 crewcab Duramax 170,xxx miles here lies the problem. It has a thump coming from the rear end as if the rear end is shifting or sliding back.It does it when you are coming to a stop and then when u accelerate. Now it has been taken in for the problem and nothing has come of it, the shocks have been replaced, the special slip yoke lubercate has been put on and yada yada. Has anyone else had this problem? Pops is getting ready to send it down the road hes so fustrated with everything thats happened with it over the years.*bdh* :thankyou2:

I wonder if you're experiencing the overload springs slapping on the rest of the spring pack..Over time, it seems that the rubber cushions disappear from the overloads and a metal on metal "clunk" is heard..

Wonder if the locker is worn out & is banging when it locks back up or when it trys to lock up.
Check the rear diff. fluid for correct level, burnt fluid or metal dust/shavings
