Anyone have experience with using an 04.5 ECM with 03 pistons and sticks, or another option is replace the 04.5 ECM with 03 ECM to use with the 03 pistons and sticks. Talked to Bean couple months ago and he hasn't done it yet, I know Terry (Soulezoo) is using 03 ECM with 06 pistons and sticks, wondering if anyone has went the other way?

Thanks, Jay

Works fine as long as the nozzles and pistons match, just did the conversion on my dually

As long as the injectors match the pistons your fine...But there are other things involved with this swap....: APPS, Injector wiring harnnes, seperator plate for the valve cover, valve cover.

I would say keep the ecm that came with the truck but make sure you have 03 pistons and 03 nozzles, they seem to melt less.

I'm running an 04.5 ecm with 03 injectors and pistons. No problems so far.

I'm working on trying to get an 03 tune to work, but ran into a couple snags that can't be fixed with electronics.

why would any of that be changed from a 04.5 ecm truck?

im running 03-04 injectors and 03-04 pistons without any problems.

okay I re-read what he posted and your comment would make sense if he wanted to run the 03 ecm, sorry for the confusion..lol

From what I've learned/experienced, going from 04.5 programming to 03 programming would require rewiring the apps circuit, and the coolant temp (ect) wiring. The 03 programming would peg my coolant temp gauge (engine cold) and the accelerator pedal wasn't right. Marco's been a big help getting me on the right track and getting me the info I need to make it work. Actually changing out ecms may require other mods.

thing is the 04.5 and up truck have a third injection event where the 03-04 only have 2 injection events. the third injection event seems to be the issue with the melting of the pistons could also be some what in the bowl design of the 04.5 and up trucks.

injector harnesses and vavle cover spacer should be the same between the 03-04 and 04.5-05. 05.5+ will have the different injector harness and valve cover spacer with the change from the 600 series to the the 610 series engines.

the 05.5 is the 610 motor and still has the same injector wiring harness as the 03-05's the 06's is when the injector plug changed.

Most 05.5's ive seen has the 2 rectangular plugs on the injector hasness like the 06's.

From what I understand, the third injection event isn't active after the engine reaches certain parameters.

correct, I believe its a factor of load, rpm, and temp?

also it is damn near immpossible to eliminate a third injection even due to the fact I believe it is ran of the same signal as the second event?

JP, am interested in your conversion minus the ecm swap...can i give you a call sometime after the holiday to pick your brain on your experiences...
