is there anything special about this motor vs the SO and HO versions? other then a lower compression and the piston oil squirters?

I don't know how accurate it is, but I have read the SO has a better cp3 and the HO has a girdle to help stiffen the bottom end a bit. Once you put a smarty in it doesn't know its a SO.
 
Compression is the same. Everything is the same except piston squirter design. The 250hp SO and 235hp cali engines carried over the same, effective design from the 89-02 engines, the 305hp HO engines have the j-nozzle design used exclusively from 04.5+
 
so do i don't really need to worry then about modding a 235 motor? is it basically tuning that makes the difference?
 
might I add that the SO motors seem to respond very well to the old tst/ez combo.

My non-cali SO dynoed at 199hp stock, 550+ modded. I cant wait for EFI live to really get it rolling.
