I'm about to embark on a '06 4x4 Auto tranny swap 5R100 and was curious as to if its a pretty straight forward deal or if theres anything to watch out for? I think it'll be pretty easy, but just curious..thanks

OH... i'm sorry dude I thought you were wedging that into your 03 7.3L

just make sure you undo all electrical connections before you get too carried away. the output speed sensor is on the top back, and is hard to see. not too difficult of a job though. Also, if you pull the t-case before you drop it, make the bottom middle bolt be last. it's a pain in the butt to get to and if you use a ratchet wrench it will get wedged in there until the t-case is moved back. enjoy.

How Much ATF goes into the Torque Converter? Or is it self Refilling?

it'll fill itself right back up, but you should be able to fit an easy quart in it before it goes on. the pump will run even if the converter is completely empty though. for the sake of the converter though, make sure it has that quart for startup.

Converter nuts are 9/16. Make sure you are on them straight when you try to take them out.

Doug, Had an issue with those dam things..Is there a easy way of taking those nuts off and on? I just unbolted the Trans housing and slid it back an inch so i could get a Wrench up on the nut.., and did the same to reassemble.. Did i do it the hard way?

You need the right socket and extension to get an air ratchet up in there. Since the nuts are rounded and staked on top they are easily destroyed. The plug on the drivers side of the engine plate is a straight shot. You can either bump the motor over. Or make a hole in the bottom of the bellhousing like the old 4r100 had in it and install the dust cover like ford did. They eliminated the drain hole in 03 but eliminated the drain back in like 01.

If you destroyed the nuts, there is a socket with teeth on it to get them off.
