Well my wife and I are selling the 06 auto:Throwup: for a 01 six speed:woohoo: and were going to have about $10,000 dollars left over out of the deal. Give me some ideas on what to get performance wise. Were going to be towing a 25' steel gooseneck horse trailer with it often, so i dont think i want to do anything extreme, but i want it to tow better than my 91 in my sig (which tows extemely well).
and an exhaust brake is a must!

What to do to a 01 six speed? Well start out converting it to a p-pump, then add your jake brake. That is where I would start.

Start with the basics first, gauges, better lift pump. then I would shoot for a horse power number that you had in mined, after you do that then look into clutch, chip, turbos and so on. you could p pump it but since you live in this commie state and they are going to start smoging and you are going to get a 01 I would keep it a vp.

x2. Id get an airdog or similar to start off with, keep that vp alive. Juice with Att or Adrenaline, they both have all your gauges included and safety features that beep at you when something gets out of line.

Clutch. Mine started slipping as soon as i put more power to it.

Then figure out if you want to go with bigger injectors and turbo. A box might be good enough for you if the '91 already tows well for you power wise.

And maybe a 2wd low kit. Helps when trying to back in a trailer in a tight spot and keep it slow.

How does all this sound. Smarty, f1 mach 2 injectors, hx-40w/g, Air Dog, South Bend Con OFE, and gauges. What do you think that will give me for power? Mind you my 91 is making 400 hp and i want to beat it.

What I would do since $$ is not a problem.

PPump Conversion NEVER have to worry about VP again.
Diesel Pro's cam while front is tore down for conversion.
Raptor 150 since you have a '01 you have the easier to change filter housing. Save the $100-120 over the Air Dog, Raptor's are effecient enough(have them on both my trucks).
Since you going to be towing heavy I would get a towing twin setup. For the same price or a little less you can have towing twins using your factory charger with a HT3B or S400 as buying some 62 or 64mm turbos.
150HP Injectors from Southern Diesel Xtreme or Smokem. Same sticks awesome reviews!!
South Bend 3600 street dual disc from Peter to hold all the power.

That won't use all of your $10K but it will put a decent dent in it. :rockwoot:

I'd do an edge comp, 62mm S300, 100-150hp injectors (I don't think the Mach injectors are getting made anymore), Airdog, clutch, and gauges. That should get you to a cool 450-500. You could run more fuel, but depending on how heavy and frequently you tow, I'd start there.

I would stick with the VP. Feed it with an airdog or fass, and it should work fine.

or buy your wife something nice :hehe:

I would do this

Cold air intake
Fass 150 hpfp
Adrenaline
150 hp sticks
Low fuel presse indicator
towing twins that use stock charger
South Bends dual disk
PdI exhaust manifold
Mbrp off road series 4'' exhaust

Then take the wife to dinner

since your in cali no ppump or huge turbo due to smog. I think you will want more than a smarty for a vp truck. It really depends on what you want to do about smog. As to what way you want to go for injector and turbo options.

will an edge comp come with the monitor and give me more power than the smarty? and will the edge leave a foot print in the computer, i like the fact that the smarty doesnt leave a footprint now that we have this stupid smog law.

the juice with Attitude monitor will have the gauges but the comp box will be much easier to unhook when you have to get tested.

small set of Twins "hx35/HT3B", 150-200 horse injectors, Fass, Airdog, or Raptor lift pump, good Clutch, Quad Adrenaline w/Pulse or Edge Juice with Attitude. And a good air intake and exhaust. oh yea, your exhaust brake too. 500+hp and will tow all day long without getting hot.

If it's not going to be a competition only rig, I would waste the money and headaches on a P-pump conversion. Put that money into other goodies. You can achieve plenty of power and drivability out of a VP for the average Joe. Do make sure you have a solid lift pump to feed the VP though---I'm partial to my mechanical belt driven pump. $.02

My parts list would include:
lift pump
Clutch
towing twins
150-200hp sticks (depending on towing duties)
Used Drag Comp (cheap nowadays)
nice wheel/tire combo

Give the wife 5 grand and use your 5 to build your truck. It is a win win.Think about it.

The Edge Juice or Comp is around 120hp gain and the Smarty is only about 60ish (no wire tap). The Edge won't leave a footprint as it does not flash the ECM.

so with i think im going to do the edge comp, now will an hx-40 be enough to cool all that fuel from the edge and mach 2's

Yes. I ran a similar setup, Hybrid Hx35/40, for over two and a half years with the Mach 2s and never had an issue with excessive EGTs. Of course your not going to be towing with the Comp box set to kill either---I usually kept mine on LVL 1 or 2 for towing.
