A friend of mine stationed over in Japan emailed me and told me his wife's relative helped her change the oil in his truck (92 W250) and used the cheapest 10w30 he could get his hands on :nail:

I told her to bring me the truck tonight and I'll make it right

What's the side effects of using cheap 10w30 car oil instead of 15w40 diesel rated oil??

As long as it wasn't run hard or more than a few hundred miles I don't see there being any problems. The bad thing about cheap 10W30 is the fact that it does not have the proper additives to protect the flat tappet lifters in a Cummins, if nothing else the engine got a good internal cleaning.

Thanks man, I forwarded that info on to him in order to light a fire under his ass and get me the truck sooner...
