ok, who all does port work? not wanting anything wild just mild for a everyday driver street truck, or should i not even fool with it?

They sell air dremels and bits at Lowes, Jimmy LOL
Charlie Reed did quite a bit of porting on mine. Seemed to turn out pretty good. Ive been running the head for 3 years with no issues. Not sure if he still has them or not but he had some before and after pics of mine saved on his computer.

I have a guy locally that has ported 2 for me, it just depends on what you want and you know what shipping is like to OKC, Ok.

Jim

Garrett at pure diesel power has a guy that does them. Hes a member on here and goes by joker12valve.

thanks guys, not looking for a whole lot of power, building this truck for my daughter. just wondered if it was worth the money to have some work done, you never know what the future holds. what kind of money are we talking about?

I wouldnt bother prob., sure there may be some noticable diff. in a high rpm race application but for the 18+ hours it takes me to do one..... I wouldnt bother on a street engine that will prob. see 500hp or less. Ive now done 3 for my self and its a long tough job. JMO

After mine was done, I saw 150-200* less egts. My boost went down about 5psi, the turbo sounds WAY different and my spoolup was 100-150rpms sooner.

I did nothing else to the truck at that time except put a new headgasket, orings, and the port and polish job.

I will say he took ALOT of metal out.

Something doesn't add up to me there, If you port the head it should move air easier thru it right? So wouldn't the boost go down since its a measure of restriction in the head?

If your asking me, then like i said in my post the boost went down 5psi.

Ive never raced the ol Cummins with nothing but a hogged out head so not sure the net diff. between spool, temps., boost, ect.... Id say it should help a lot on a engine developing lots of power and moving lots of air, due to how poor the stock casting is, exp. in the bowl area. Area under the valves, short turn radius, and around the valve guides are very raw in stock form..... Ryan

My last one just has bowl work on the intake and exhaust with the roof raised on the exhaust too, nothing too big deal but some help for sure, then he decked and O-Ringed it.

Care to share in a pm what he charges for that type of work? I may have to send a head up to OKC

If the truck for your daughter is to have 550hp or less then spend your money elsewhere.

Yeah if just a Daily driver and under 600hp, I wouldn't even think about porting it, use that money towards some quick spooling twins.

Sometimes it's handy not having much going on. I'm not sure how much I'm gonna port, but I'm defiantly gonna polish it good.
