12V Idle Range?

In D with A/C on the book says 750-850 IIRC, that usually puts them at 900-1000 in park.

I prefer mine on the upper end of that, around 850 in gear so the big injectors don't get *****y and lope.

Chris' post sounds about right to me.

If it's a manual trans, 750 with A/C on. I have mine sitting around 850 to smooth it out a bit.

I had a lot of trouble getting mine to idle in gear with the A/C on. Had it idled up to a little over 1K and it would still die. One pump guy told me it was the Goerend TC and I'd just have to live with it. Told me I might try tightening the Gov Springs a couple of clicks. I would have to put it in neutral at a stop and with the idle that high when I'd put it in gear it would almost bark the tires and loosened some of my fillings.

Finally another pump man told me to loosen the GS's. After that and re-adjusting the idle, it doesn't die anymore, idles @ 800 in park and @ 650 in gear with the idle on. No more neutral or jerking into gear.

I've had 3K's and 5K's, and if setup right, they will both be rock solid at idle in gear or out.

Although in my experience, not all 5K springs are created equal...

Mine in Park was Idling right at 1100-1200 No AC. I backed it down to about 850-900....Way better at Stop lights.

What shall speed is your TC, I'm hating my 97 auto right now I have a SunCoast 44 there 24v low shall TC.. I have used this TC in other 12v trucks with out problems so my pump must be wrong?

If i idle it up to stay running in rev. with A/C on it slams into gear and I hate this!

So you loosen the gov springs (did you check with dail calipers) and rise the idle screw?

Thanks!

I'm not sure on my stall. I just told Dave what I was going to do with the truck and he sent me a TC.

I backed the springs off till they were flush with the studs, then went back in 2 full turns. Worked great for me.

Who's gov springs do you have? You backed off till the top of locks where flush?

When your TC locks how many rpms does it drop?

Thanks!

I had a machinist friend of mine make me some shims for the springs so the springs are stock.

On a mid throttle accellerating pull it will drop @ 250-300rpm.

i know on the sticks the bump the idle upi for better oil pressure on idle not sure about the autos tho

I set my idle to 750 in drive, AC on. Its about 900 when its idling in park. I also run a low stall converter and it doesnt jerk into drive like it did on my last trans. that might be an internal adjustment? I can see how the stall might be involved.
when Im driving and let off the pedal sometimes it hangs at 1200-1500 rpm and I dont slow down like normal.
Assuming this idle hanging is something in the gov springs. The throttle linkage is fine.
