i was wondering what your opinions on dropping a 12v in place of a 24v? would it mount right in? my vp44 went out and im thinking about just dropping a 12v in it with the p-pump so i can make more power. and what mods should i make to the 12v if i put one in? wanting around 800-900hp. how much work would it be?

can i still see 800-900hp out of doing just that. im afraid of the bottom end blowing out are sumthin. i heard the 12v blocks and the whole engine are stronger and more reliable at that high horsepower.

id definity just p pump the 24v.the cylinder walls are much thicker from what ive heard just put a 12v head and p pump it

I'd leave the head alone (aside from porting) and P-Pump it.

Check out the P-Pump 24v forum...

p-pump your 24v talk to getblown 5.9 he is in the process of p-pumping his 24v for sled pulling. i think i'm going to do a cr block and head with a p-pump in a dodge d-100 for drag racing

you can't beat a p-pump for fueling only thing is its street manors are like the vp-44 or cp-3's once turned up.

P-Pump 24 Valve Cummins are used in the most high end applications. Look at all the drag cars. They P-Pump 24 Valves for a reason. Depending what kind of tools/shop you have, it might be easier to swap a 24v for a 12v. But a P7100 on a 24 Valve will have much better results.

Standard Outputs also have advantages over a 12 Valve like lower compression and no offset injection.

Also the blocks are suppose to be stronger than 12 valves. The 53 Blocks had issues, obviously, but that had nothing to do with power. Supposedly some of the 2001-2002 blocks were the strongest made, but I also heard some of the Common Rails had the best blocks too. It wouldn't surprise me if the 12 Valve blocks were weaker.

But me I really could care less what block is the best. I'll never build a engine so powerful that the block strength is a issue. All the blocks will last 4 Million miles with stock power.

12v swap isnt too bad.... mostly just swapping sensors, putting the 2v cam gear on, machining the cover for the Cam Position Sensor, etc......

im in the process of doing a 12v swap.......im rebuilding the 12v first and taking my sweet tima at it, i had the 24v out in about 4 or 5 hours and the 12 should go in as fast. i bought a wire harness from a 9812v so everything should work fine

If you have the 53 block, Id drop in a 12v, if not P-pump it.
