12v install in a 24v truck

Hey guys i need some help here.
Tore into my 99 for a head rebuild and a P-pump conversion and found multiple problems with bore and fire rings.
My question is what will i run into with putting a 12v instead of 24v?
I have heard something about crank sensor or timing pickup is different.
Any help would be great!
Or does anyone have a good non 53 engine?
