not to sound like a 2012 dooms day prepper but has anyone done any research on what it would take to make an old 12v work in the event of an EMP?

I would think you would automatically rule out auto trucks, and you would need a manual fuel shut off, anyone ever rolled their truck down a hill to start it? as long as you have the mechanical lift pump you would be good there. Anything else I'm missing?

EMP wipes out the electronics. Don't think it would wipe out solenoids.

LOL It may ruin your day if your favorite song is on the radio, but a 12V would fine!

haha well there isn't really anything good on the radio these days anyway. I think it might be a good idea to mount a 50 cal on the roof to keep people from tryin to jack my truck lol

I think the the 47 RH and the 727 autos should still work wouldn't they? IN the case of the 47 RH you would have to wire in switches for the Overdrive and Lockup. That's my understanding anyways.

The 47RE/48RE would work, just need manual shift and to wire in switches for lockup and OD.

I heard somewhere a few years ago that it depended on how close you are to where it is set off. That the closer you are to the detonation the more likely the copper in the wiring would melt. Thats why I was ruling out using any wiring. but who knows

The 12v's are like cockroaches in the good way lol. They would probably survive a nuclear attack and if you ran out of fuel just stuff a pig in the tank it would probably run on it lol:D

If the alternator survived it might take out the ECM and ex voltage reg.

This 2012 stuff scares me a little.
I am glad I have a 12V and a self-contained camper.

2012 doesnt scare me.
Living in a crowded city full of people that havent got a -clue- how to survive without government assistance scares me.

These old engines will run on a lot of fuels. I bet you could even run a 12v fumigated with woodgas or methane if you got creative.

there is a big thread about this on Cumminsforum

oh thanks, I hadn't seen that yet. Just searched for it and there is actually a few threads about it. This reminds me of the chevy superbowl ad about 2012 except it would be old dinosaur dodge 12 valves instead haha
