Just got the engine fired and have to tap the throttle for it to start. 5k GSK, afc mods, 0 plate, full cuts, 5x.016. It idles smooth with no lope and returns to idle fine. I have the fuel pressure regulated to 45psi. Any ideas?

I kinda thought that was it. It only idles at about 650. Thanks!

with the old 170 pump i always had to give mine a little pedal to get her started, idle fine, ran fine.

I have to give mine just a tap to fire it...idles at about 900 in Neutral, about 700 in gear, a/c on...idle is just a touch low.

on my truck, when i had injectors with the higher pop-offs set for a vp44, it would take a few second of cranking and usually a pump of the pedal for it to fire. now with p-pump pop-offs it still takes a couple seconds of cranking, but if i just touch the pedal it will fire quicker and run.

The stop had a little wear on the end of it. It only took a little bit to get it right. Cranks maybe a second and fires right up.

Just for the record, if your governor springs are a touch on the tight side this can also cause longer cranking.

When mine are a click or 2 too tight, it cranks for a second before starting. When they are backed off where they should be, it fires about as soon as you hit the key.

Looks like I need to loosen the GS's. When warm it is slow to come down to idle and crank time is a tad too long.

yeah, when i had my stock gov springs cranked up i had to tap the throttle to start it and it took a few seconds of cranking.

then when my 4k was loose it would start, like you said, about as soon as you hit the key. now with them tightened properly it take a second or two and fires right up. no tap.

try 1 click at a time.

I may have time tomorrow to try it. For having the engine apart and doing all the pump work myself I can't complain. It's the first Cummins I've done.

Some pumps are this way stock with stock GS's. I've talked with several pump shops and they really don't have an answer either other than tap the throttle to start it. LOL
