what are you guys using in your 60's......i just ordered my free spin kit and 35 spline axle kit and i need some 1480's for the front......i was thinking rebuildable CTM's possibly......

Yukon makes rebuildable one too. CTM is pricey. I just run the good joints from CATCO. I think there call neapcos or something on that order.

Spicer joints all the way. For the money a good deal for how strong they are. When you start talking CTM joints, now you are talking some coin.

you should be able to pick up some ctms for a little under 300 still. I look at it this way run a spicer and worry about it breaking and when it does most likely will kill the ears on the inner and outer shafts. so you need a new set of shafts and a spicer joint witch will run ya about 400 for a decent set of shafts and a new spicer. also if you have a detroit in the axle theres a good chance that you'll shock load it when the joint snaps and take out one or two side gears in the detroit.

On the daily driving part if your running lockout there should be no problem with it since the shafts won't have power going to them and won't really be turning. If you have drive flanges and leave the pucks in jack told me to just keep them greased on a regular basis and they should be fine. he explained to me as when your driving down the street most of the time is spent with the wheel straight and when the wheels straight your not putting a wearing force on the cross and caps its just when you are turning. and with that being said I have about a year of daily driving on my truck now and the joints are still tight like the day I got them and I have a mix of having my drive slugs in and out during this time.

The way im lookn at it... those 1480's are a lot stronger then the axles! The axles in thies trucks stock are 30 spline 1.31 in diameter ( 99 and older) that is the same size as a dana 44... you'll break an axle befor ya break a 1480 spicer!!! Iv ran 1480 spicers for years in d-60 (35 spline) front's and broke axles, never a ujoint! What breaks the ujoints is having the wheels turned while under power, in a pullin truck your wheels are strait, for the most part!

the inner axles are 4130 Mosers and the outers are 4340's, everything is 35 spline......eventually i may just spool the front when it becomes a sled puller so i wont have to worry about a locker.......but the problem with that is that my lockouts take a set screw to lock them in place instead of the detent ball most lockouts use so that makes getting out and locking in the front axle a little harder than normal.......
