Just bought this truck. 1995 Cummins AT 136k miles. At initial startup, the truck does not move. Let it idle for about a minute and its fine. Does not seem to slip. Also had it come out of gear so to speak when driving. Came to a stop sign, then wouldn't take back off for a second, but still no slipping. I've been told it could be the torque converter, or a governor pressure solenoid, or needs a complete rebuild. Anyone else have similar symptoms. Not afraid to rebuild in our own garage, but not sure what parts of the trans are in need of an upgrade from stock. The truck is basically a daily driver, with the occasional trailer pull. Only upgrades are intake, exhaust, and delivery valves. With the 47RH reputation, I want to know the weak points of the tranny that NEED to be changed instead of just rebuilding with stock parts. Not wanting to spend a fortune and have no need for a $4000 ATS or Goerend.

not moving right of of idle sounds like a bad check valve, but not to sound like an a** hole but does it have fluid? and checked while running?

I should also note, I own another 94 Cummins AT that runs and drives exceptional. Not afraid to rob a part for a simple test. Within reason.

keep in mind dodge transmissions should have fluid level checked in neutral.

try changing the fluid and filter. use hyguard hydraulic oil and see if that makes a difference.

do you know if it has updated cooler lines, if you dont it is in the rubber hose at the cooler in the front, you cant miss it its like a section of rubber hose you can disconnect, and the previous owner could of removed it as well i know a few people who take them out

I just bought a 94, 128k. Has the same issue. Its like the tranny is in neutral, it can be in drive, rev it up and it does nothing, then all the sudden it'll drop into gear (if it drops in when you're reving it up, it'll spin the tires). I'm assuming there's a sticky valve in the valve body. It shifts and drives fine otherwise, but when its cold out it takes a minute to go into gear. Its not converter drain back, I know what that is. Its just like the truck is in neutral, then engages and is fine. Has to be a vb issue, I just haven't taken the time to check it out yet. Probably gonna get a shift kit or send it out and have goerand go thru it. Let me know what you find and if I get to mine first, I'll let you know what I find.

they don't pump fluid in park if they're stock, so put it in neutral for a few seconds before going to drive, so get some pressure going.

I dunno about his, but on mine it doesn't matter if its in park or neutral, it still takes a while for it to "drop" into gear.

Well like I said, it also did it after I had driven down the road. Should have had pressure at that point. Even if, I will not accept starting a truck and letting it set in neutral for awhile before I can drive it as the norm. It needs work if I can't just get in and go, I'm just looking for the solution. Will probably be taking it to the transmission shop for a diagnostic test.
