I have a number 8 fuel plate in it and a afe cold air intake im looking at turning up the p-pump and i was wanting to ask if this is something i could do my self if so how would i go about doing this right and if not who would i need to talk to about doing it for me and how much this will cost me.... Im not looking at having a race truck yet with my dodge so i dont really want to pull the pump out..... 1997 Dodge 12vavle long bed 2500 Any help? thanks alot everyone

Well there's a few little things you can do to get more performance out of the pump without having special tools. You can buy a governor spring kit (GSK) to allow fueling at higher RPMs. You can slide the plate forward which will allow more rack travel, and therefore more fueling. If you don't have a 215 hp pump you could install what they call a Mack plug, which would also allow more rack travel. I have read the Mack plug won't benefit fueling on a 215 hp pump due to the way the plungers inside are machined. There are also tricks that can be done to the AFC (Aneroid Fuel Control) to do with swapping the position of the washers in there for the diaphragm which affects the spring pressure on the diaphragm, which affects when the AFC foot moves out of the way of the governor arm and allows the governor arm to contact the plate. Basically this is regulating the amount of fueling allowed with respect to the amount of boost pressure being applied to the AFC diaphragm. You can also use compressed air to simulate boost being applied to the AFC diaphragm with the AFC housing off the pump to adjust the AFC spring tension to dictate what boost pressure is required to get the AFC foot to start moving. If you get a hold of more specialized tools you can adjust your injection timing which has a positive effect on performance and fuel economy. If you do some searches on these subjects in the 12 valve forum you will find a wealth of detailed information available. Best of success to you.

I can tell you right now you can add fuel to it all day long but it wont make that big of diffrence unless you have the air for it. If you dont have a boost elbow on there get one so u can turn it up to around 35 psi so you dont run out of the turbos map. This will also help keep egts down. if you add a gsk kit you will see a lot of heat up as you just gained a ton of rpm.
