Lets talk wheel speed. I run a about 34mph gear in 1:1 lo range, run it weather its loose or tight doesnt matter I am a 1 trick pony right now. What I am wandering since some short indoor tracks are coming up is it better to drop a gear on a short, pretty loose track or stick with the high gear? Wandering if so much wheel speed will blow the tires off and never hook good.

So what speed do you run and do you change up for different length tracks or different surfaces?

I run 36-39mph wheel speed, pretty well stuck with running 4th low all the time. Tried 2 high and blew the trans all to hell.
End up with about a 5mph slip.

Ya last time I tried 2 hi I broke the output shaft on the trans as well. So about the only choice I have is drop from 5th down to 4th and even on a short track I am not sure thats a good idea.

mines slow but i dont have the power as all you do, data log shows 25-26

If you can get the stand alone ECM system or go p-pump and be able to turn 4500rpm or so down the track, I would pull a lower gear this way you can launch a little easier and ease in to it at the start to get the tires to hook up, but still be able to get the ground and wheel speed up to have around the same MPH as you would with your fast gear if not more ground speed. But that just me.

I was running this setup last year..
5KRPM,3RD LO with 33's=30MPH

My goal is to run 4TH LO so it is 1-1,So this year i will be going to 5:13's and keeping the 33's

5KRPM,4TH LO should be 35MPH

We thought of running 4.88's which would make 4TH LO 36.9MPH

Whats everyone running??5:13's??

30-34 mph for me (depending on the track)... Hoping to pick up a few more Rrrrr's next year.

I'd like to try 2nd hi on loose tracks but won't due to the reasons posted above LOL

wow 3rd low ????? time to gear it . i like 4.88's but i am in MI where our tracks are a bit looser.

I'm wanting to go to 4.88's next year as well. I broke the tranny once and the transfer case twice this year running in 2nd high. Anyone know why 4.88's are twice as much as the 5.13's are?

ok so you guys have high wheel speed but what is your average ground speed

Our trucks around here are makin maybe 24-25 mph ground speed on a good track and maybe 18 or so mph on a loose track

All depends on the sled. With our local sled here its an old 60k# sled thats heavy out of the hole and never let you get full track speed, I usually hit 25-26mph with it and I think 26mph is about the fastest anyone has ever gone with it. Now if you hit a speed sled like the Lowery sleds you can get within about 5mph of wheel speed or maby even right at wheel speed. Only time I pull those is at Scheids and they dont give me my MPH so not sure what I did there.

See my truck has about 27-28 mph, with sled speeds of 25 mph. I know guys that are grabbing direct gear, and I can beat them or run right with them with my puny ground speed.

Same here with my 04. I ran 4th low (6spd) with 3.73 gears. It was one of the slower geared trucks in our class and I could hold my own somewhat in the 2.5/2.6 class. The sled I usually pulled is super light down the track (faster than any lowery sled) and I could match my ground and wheel speeds pretty easily on a good track. I think I usually hit between 25-26mph.
