its a 2000 4x4 2500 dodge cummins with an ATS built 47re auto. alllegedly and per previous owner the trans has 30k miles. truck altogether has 120k. it ran and shifted perfect and was driven daily until i fixed my s10 and ive wanted to sell the dodge for awhile so parked it in parents front yard as my location where i live isnt viewable by the public on any main road. my dad would drive it the short distance up to the garage every night and down by the road every morning, not a problem. about a week after advertising it at my parents and it having most likely not been driven anywhere to have shifted from first gear my dad said he brought it to the garage that night and it felt as if it was stuck in third gear or definitely a higher gear than first no doubt. i went and test drove it and this was the case for sure im almost certain its third its using as its only forward gear. with no experience on the 47re and little research i dropped the pan, replaced the filter, looked for obvious signs of something being out of place or broken and prodded electrical connections on the gov sol. and pressure sensor, replaced pan and refilled with fresh +4 fluid. started it, got trans fluid level up to norm and then drove it. same dam deal. didnt think id be that lucky anyway. did some reading and replaced the range sensor/neutral safety switch as well as the output speed sensor. on the pan's magnetic drain plug there was a "normal" amount of shavings accumulated and on the speed sensor there was a little bit of shavings on its magnetic end.on the range sensor when its moving end was pushed in, it would eject some trans fluid and was dirty so i thought possibly that might be the fix. also found near the main electrical connector on the trans someone had spliced in a small resistor between a black wire and a green wire. these connections were very loose and poorly performed so i cleaned and redid them and shrink wrapped when done. just drove the truck an hour ago after having done all this last night and its same symptoms. drop from park to drive and third gear only, go to neutral then drop strait to first and can shift manually to drive (third) but after this theres no 4th or overdrive at all. symptoms just as ive read on a thread on comp d a short while ago so i know its gotta be a typical fix at least i hope. the truck also has a switch installed by prev owner on the dash that is for manual tc lockup, since all this started this switch has no effect on the trans at all. the switch will illuminate when flipped on but no lockup. i wish i did but i dont have a scanner that will check on things like trans pressures and the like. im limited to a scanner thatll turn off a cel and read its codes. i rarely take anything to anyone to be repaired and wouldnt mind solving this myself but ive got a trade offer with cash that id like to take but have to get this thing fixed first. i would appreciate and be extremely thankful for any advice you might have on this issue. thanks in advance.

It's probably a governor pressure sensor or seleoniod. I usually change them as a pair.

Try the gov solenoid. If you are keeping it or have the spare cash id replace both(solenoid and transducer)

You can pull battery cables and reset computer, usually, it will drive normal for a bit. If that's the case then solenoid and transducer
