Well the board says diesel conversions so I hope I got this right. I'll give you the abridged version of how I got to this point.

Here's my defender when it came home

Here's what it looks like now,

Here's what the engine bay used to look like,

Now for the CompD relevant parts. I have always, ALWAYS wanted to fit a cummins into my LR, the only problem was there are less than 20 2500 dodges on the island and less than 10 of those are diesels. I found out that we have plenty in a british truck called a DAF 45. So I sat, waited and saved until I had the money and opportunity to buy one. This is the result of my years and tears.

There's a few of these swaps done already into defenders, most retain the ZF (German ZF not the american box) and divorce mount the LR transfer case. I on the other hand wanted to use a 47rh backed by the LR transfer because I really didn't like the idea of a computerized transmission. Turns out that 47rh's are rarer than unicorn $hit here. I considered getting one out of the states, but I don't have to tell you what the shipping quote was to fly a transmission to the caribbean do I?

Just as I was about to give up and go with the ZF, I ran into a guy I knew that owned one of the few rams. It was a 24v that had a mysterious transmission problem. They had it changed under warranty I was told it had less than 30K on it and they never bothered to send it for repair and upgrade because of shipping charges. It had been sitting outside for a few years strapped to a pallet so needless to say it looked rough.

I cleaned it up, bought a transmission manual online, said a prayer to baby Jesus then tore into the transmission hoping it wouldn't be devastation.

If newbness to tranmission workings offends you, you should probably skip this part and head on to the second post.

Took the sump off and found a magnet in the sump and this thing that looked like a steel wedge.

I didn't know what the hell was going on at first but it all made sense when I went further.

This is pretty awesome. Don't worry about the pics, we can still see them if we click them. Photobucket sucks these days.

atreefunk: quit posting useless crap.

Coilovers, bobd, beadlocks, boggers, and now a cummins. I like were this is headed.

Thanks guys.

I'm hoping someone can help me here. I'm looking for a physical outside diameter on the transfer case shaft (Spud shaft?) which slips over the 47re's output shaft. This diagram should help identify what I'm after.

Reason being I'm going to have a machine shop create a custom spud shaft to mate my 47re and Land rover transfer case and I want to make sure it fits the in the seal correctly.

Thanks in advance
