Hello everyone, I tried searching around, but didn't find the specific answers I was really looking for. 98% of my work is on diesel vw's and semi's (odd combo I know), so my experience with modified manual cummins stuff is a little lacking.

I'm helping a friend out with a truck that he just bought and trying to get all the kinks worked out. Specs of the truck are a 01 SO 5 speed 4x4 dualie, 111K, south bend twin 3250 twin disc, edge box, gauges, and straight exhaust. Everything else is stock.

First question: The clutch was toast when we bought the truck so we tossed in a SB 3250 and the upgraded hydraulics immediately since he plans on playing with it a little. Pilot and release bearings were of course replaced. The spacer on the slave cylinder was removed per instruction from SB. Right now there's 200 miles on the setup and I'm well aware its not going to shift like a race car or anything. However, my question is how long should the tranny and clutch take to spin down before it'll go into reverse smoothly from a stop? Right now, it takes about 4 seconds after pushing the clutch in before it'll drop in without feeling like a 10sp Eaton. When it does drop in without drama, the truck "wiggles" a little. Is that normal?

Second question: As usual, lift pump is flat lining at anything over half throttle. Truck has already had the dealer in tank pump retrofit done. My question is what is the most reliable setup for this scenario? Leave the pump in the tank and put a pump on the frame rail? Or remove the in tank pump and use a draw straw to a pump on the frame? The owner doesn't really want to do a monster filtered FASS or Airdog setup due to a thin wallet after buying the clutch. Just trying to find something reliable, and I trust opinions here much more than a sales pitch paragraph on an ad haha.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Maybe wrong but i believe a dual disc is sometimes a pita to get into reverse. The wiggling or surging, there is a bearing on your clutch pedal that goes out and will cause that...

As far as lift pump i would go with a raptor 150, comes with 1/2 fuel lines and everything else to mount it on the frame. I have one on my truck keeps a steady 22 psi. The raptor will bypass everything as far as intank pump. I believe they are around 400 bucks maybe cheaper...

my dual disc is a pain to get into reverse too, as for the pump, raptor will be as good as any

Thanks for the answers Claykann and SFP. I know the dual discs have a little bit of character compared to singles, but I'd just never driven one in a pickup before. The twin disc in my TDI Jetta isn't a valid comparison haha.

I was either looking at either the raptor, ppe's lift pump, or the bd lift pump kit. I'll poke around for prices on the raptors.

I got into the habit of dropping the trans into 4th then hitting reverse...no wait doing it that way.
