Ok, I have a friend that runs an auto repair shop and they don't do much diesel work. They had a customer recently bring in an 02 dodge cummins that was havin a hard time running and now it won't run. He called me up and said no one in his shop wants to work on the diesel and they neeed some advice on fixing it. After talking to him this truck might end up being a job for me to do since him and none of his mechanics want to work on it. Any ways the truck is throwing a couple codes. It has the VP44 death code p0216 and it also showing p0234,p1689, and p1698. Obviously it needs an injection pump and propbably a lift pump if its bad too.

But the thing I have a question about it the p0234,p1689, and p1698 codes. I see the p0234 is an over boost. Does this mean a bad waste gate or bad MAP sensor? I had a p0237 on my truck and a new MAP sensor fixed it. Would it be the same for a p0234? I see one of the other codes refers to CCD and the other is a VP44 to ECM no communication code. What is the CCD code? I haven't dealt with it before. I have NOT look at the truck yet, i do plan on looking at it soon to help my friend out and it'll give me some extra cash if i do this job for him.

Thanks!
matt

It sounds to me like it needs a VP, once you get the truck running see what other codes it throws (if any). The 1698 means there are more codes in either the ECM or PCM you are not seeing, can't remember which though, CRS strikes again! :bang

Sounds like a IP, LP and cleaning all the connectors would be a good start.

agreed!! and are there any mods on this truck? when i had an edge comp it would throw the 0234 code, no problem though! also check the chassis grounds, there could be a bad ground causing a bad connection with the ECM or PCM

According to my buddy he said the owner of the truck never has had a box on it. So I'm ruling out a bad box since there isn't one on it. I figured it needs a VP and LP.
