Any reason not to buy the new one?? I know enough about Duramaxes to be dangerous...basically what to do, and what no to do;)

Might put a small tune on it, but probably never do much over a very mild tranny build. Maybe 500hp??

Basically, looking at which one would be better for a Daily Driver, probably shooting for 200K miles, with decent reliability. Also, fuel economy on each...EGR/DPF delete is not out of the question on the 09 as well;)

Brother is getting rid of a 2001 2500HD 6.0L Gasser...been basically trouble free for 289K miles, but the oil system loses prime after sitting overnight. We rebuilt the tranny at 258K miles, and put on a A/C compressor, starter, alternator, and one wheel bearing. We doubt the new one will be that good:hehe: :hehe:

My cousin has a 2008 LMM and has had no problems with it. The fuel mileage sucked until he took off the DPF and put a PPE programmer on it. With the programmer, DPF delete and air intake he is running low 14's in the quarter mile if I recall correctly.

IMO it's just a matter of which one you like the looks of better. Either can be made to optimize thr MPG via tuning. The transmissions are virtually exactly the same as it relates to strength and durability. It will take some parts to handle 500rwhp with either one. Both will respond to tuning equally.

Both will still need tierod sleeves to do boosted launches.

So, IMO its really just a matter of preference in looks. Everything else is pretty equal once the DPF is done away with.

Do NOT allow Dale to remove the speed limiter on this one. The last one was ridiculous enough. I mean, who passes at 85mph IN THE CORN FIELD?!?!! :hehe:

i love my LMM and have for 27,000 miles now....its 100% stock with 285's on 17 inch hummer wheels...and i still can get 19-20mpg on the highway hand calculated. (i use my gps to determine actual miles driven since the speedo is off)

theres no reason not to buy an LMM if you can afford it. I know a guy in ft worth that just bought an 09 LMM and got $18k off the sticker.

Leaning towards the LMM, simply because we can buy a new one, that we will know what we put it through, instead of letting someone else put the first 60-70K on it.

If it get's 13-14mpg, it will be as good as his gasser, and better than Dad's 08 gasser. Then I can just make it better;)

Without deleting the DPF don't expect much, if any, better MPG than that. You will definitely want to delete the DPF right away for MPG purposes.

Kind of what I was thinking of.

New truck is on it's way...3500 Single Wheel, nicely equipped I guess. The only time I'll drive it's when he's had a few too many:hehe:

Good Choice!!! DPF Delete and and EFI tune or PPE tune and you will be real pleased with your purchase.

Made it's first decent trip...From Ohio to Maryland, 80mph-ish through the mountains netted about 15-15.25mpg...more flat land tank was about 16.5mpg. Not too bad considering what we were expecting.

Old 6.0L gasser got about 13-14.5mpg on the freeway, and Dad's 08 6.0L gasser would have got about 9mpg on the same terrain. We'll take the 15!!

She runs pretty good too he says! I said "Welcome to the Dark Side...give me your checkbook"
