I'm good friends with some of the guys down at the local truck salvage yard and happened upon a 1997 12v out of an F-800... Tag on the side of the engine says it's a 230hp engine and the last three on the pump are 844.

My question is, does anyone know if this pump has the better cam in it vs the 160 pump??? I can get it for $300 exchange. It's way back in the corner and it's a core engine, so it will be there awhile... But, I'm curious if I should save some coin :evil

Also, any info or guesses on the DV's it would have would be great.

No one??? Nothing at all?

I had your exact (almost) same question that I tossed around on some other forums... they all said to stick with my 180HP (899) pump? I did tear into my 841 (out of an F700) pump a little for some investigation.... one apparent differance was that the top of the 841 plungers are not cut flat like the 899 pump, which would indicate that as the rack travels the start of injection time changes along with the end of enjection (helix) as the RPM's increase. I do believe, but just have not verified yet, that the total plunger stroke is greater for the 841.... which at full rack travel, I would think that the 841 would have more fuel potential, but then again it would depend on how the helix is cut into the plunger. I'm certain that all this could be one of those industry secrets, those that know and those that don't.... I'm positive that someone has played with these on a pump bench!

:bang

Using a P7100 from a Medium Duty application is not a wise decision.

 Might I inquire why? I mean I have no problem not spending the money if it's not going to help me any. I know the 160 pump has enough in it for what I want anyway.

Same cam, but the plunger design is not a good choice for performance.

Ok, that's all I wanted to know. I'm gonna assume they just throw a different plate in there then? Any ideas on the DV's I can probably trade them if they're 181's.

Thanks

Not sure what number the pumps were but the 230 and 250hp pumps that ive been into both had 179 Dv's in them and a totally diff. designed plate. The shoulder was just slightly smaller than that of a 181... around .079/.080 vers ~ .0087 for the 181.

Interesting... But these are exactly like the 181's other than the shoulder being a little smaller then right? Not upside down like the 131's? If I do get them I will swap everything including the holders since they should be matched. Maybe I'll have to take my DV socket along with next time :poke:

Waste of time then? Or does it at least get rid of that gay washer set-up? Or just flat out better to invest in a set of 181's?

If you have done the "other" pump mods then some DV will get you some more fuel. Have you done the 2095 plug yet? That's a cheap bang!

I'm going to continue to research the mystery question.....

I plan on getting the 2095 rack plug, 4kGSK, and finishing the AFC mods... This all before I put the rest of the truck back together :rockwoot:

Trying to understand what measurement we are making here.... my cut 181's have a dia. of 2.630" My stock 131's are 3.008" Not sure what a stock 181 is?

Add some cut Dv's and with enough air... you'll be well pass the 600 mark!

Is that the differance between the bore id and the shoulder od?

I am asuming that it is a 1553 cpl. I took the injectors and the pump off of the same engine. I slid the plate, tuned the AFC, and a 4" exhaust, it moves a hole lot better know. Hitting 35pound no probleme.
