I have had a DHD apart for too long. I forget how it goes back together LOL. Does the rear bearing control the depth of the mainshaft? It just seems like the mainshaft is too deep(far forward in the case). Doesn't appear to allow the slider to slide enough to disengage the 4x4. Also how is the rear bearing on the shaft? Which way is the snap ring? Towards the front or back?

Kind of hard to remember for me too, but I think the rear bearing does locate the shaft as well, thats why its got the snap ring in it.

click on link in down load the standard trans in t case catolog. It has a break down. Think it was page 357 on parts book.

The snapring in the tailhousing centers the mainshaft. It will not work properly until that is in place. For bearing/snap ring placement the snapring goes towards the rear/output of the tail housing.

Yea, that is what it appears. Thanks for the info, thing had been on the apart for over a year, I was putting it together, and using the shifter before, and like I said it seems like the mainshaft was too deep.

Thanks!
