Hey guys,
I'm looking to make my 2500 in a 3500 dually. Whats the difference between the width of a D80 from a 2500 and the width of a D80 from a 3500 dually? Would I be able to get the longer studs from a dually truck and some dually wheels and bolt them up to my axle?
A flatbed would most likely go on the truck so I'm not worried about how it would look under a dually bed.
Any input is appreciated!

I believe the D80 from a 3500 is actually narrower then the one under my truck.. I could be mistaken..

The d80 from a 3500 is wider, unless it is a cab and chassis, then it is narrower than the srw

I know my post here post here may not do you any good but here goes

I think there is a kit for this, I don't remember where I read this. I'll try to find it.

If you have drum brakes you could have some clearance issues.

Yea a single D80 doesent have the spacer that is requiered to run the duals and the wheels(16") will not go over the drums but 17" will. The dually D80 is about 1-2 wider at the face were the wheel bolts to then a single

Is it 1-2" wider on both ends? So if I was to get the longer studs, then I could machine a spacer so a 16" wheel would work with my drums? I also thought about running 19.5's but the price is making me think otherwise.. Maybe I could source some 17's off a 3rd gen.

If you buy the 2" spacers, they come with studs. You bolt the space to the wheel, then you bolt the wheel to the spacer.

Do you mean, you bolt the spacer to the hub then bolt the wheel to the spacer? Where can I source these 2" spacers?

I have a '98 dually D80 under my truck right now. With single wheel on the back they only stick out maybe 1/2" beyond the fronts.

So maybe a 2" spacer on the rear would be too much? Whatever it takes to clear the drums I guess..

If you get lucky at the local junkyards and can find a late 80's, early 90's Chevy 3500HD (the first 450 class truck, tell what it is by the drop bumper in front and straight axle) the rims from that truck will work on a Dodge with a bit of work to the centers. And they are 19.5 rims, 8 lug.

Wes, theres a 00.5-02(6spd) 3500 at Dings junkyard in Litchfield. Im not sure of the gear ratio but it might be worth a look.

Thanks Aaron I might take a look the next time I'm home. The reason why I'm thinking of doing the sapcer thing is because there is a kid here with a 01 3500 that wants a SRW. he doesnt want to swap rear axles so I'm trying to see if there is a way to do it by just swaping him wheels and tires.

btw, Hows that pump conversion coming Aaron?

Careful with the GM 3500HD's 19.5's... I've seen more 10 LUG than 8.

If thats what your thinking of dont forget you will need 2 $500 fender flares or his dually bed. I dont believe it is legal to have the tire that far outside the bed without a flare. I know that thats the case here in Va and Wv, you may want to check into it.

Thanks Disturbed,
I did have that in mind I just didn't express it on the forum. We would be swaping beds.
