I see the rules for TS Performances' hook in April call for a 3.5" Diameter ring to hook..
For those of us with a 3" pintle ring, do you think it will be safe to mill out the extra half inch to comply, or do we need to get a different hitch?

If I'm thinking correctly, we would only need to take out 1/4" all the way around to get the half inch, correct?

Yes you would need to remove 0.250 a side for a 3.5 dia. But depending on how yours is made you might be better off to move the opening in towards the base

I've never seen them measure the hole...and last year they got Old Ironsides...my hitch opening is only 3" and I was fine.

Unless there is a specific reason for the extra half inch...i don't see why a standard 3" hitch wouldn't work like guys use everywhere else.

I'd be the only guy getting Dq'd for opening diameter though with my luck, TS is a long haul, I wouldn't want to drive down there for nothing!!:bang

You guys with the Pintle Rings are the reason for this rule in many organizations. The hook will get stuck most times and the hook will have to get hit with a hammer to get it out. My suggestion is to make your own hook point out of a piece of 1" steel stock, or a clevis.

Or if you have the ring that bolts on, just get a 3.5" one too and stick it in the tool box. If they let you run with the 3", take it back when you get home.....Or just save it for future use.

I understand, but try finding a 3.5" ring that fits this hitch design:

Thats the kind I was thinking about, they don't make 3.5" ring like that? I've never looked, so I don't know....

Wow... 3.5", it took me long enough to get the 3" one figured out and find exactly what I wanted. Next year it'll be 4"... It seems like the 3" has been fine for all the hooks that I've been to, that's what everyone around here has. Interesting.

Hitch

Well I've got one solution to hitch. We have been making our hitches and now they are to NTPA specifications on opening 3X3.75. Wont have any hook problems at all. CNC and Laser cut and strong.[/ATTACH] My old hitch on left. PM for more information.

the hooks have been updated on all the sleds and 3" wide is fine but you really need it to be 3.5 deep front to back from sled to truck to allow the hook from the sled to fully seat properly. The 3" holes end up causeing problems, This is a request from the sled owners to the org's and that is the reason for the rule change

You will start seeing this rule at all your hooks
