goin to buy some tires for the truck and wonderin with a 5 speed, 3.55 gears what would be better 33 or 35" tires.... lookin pry at bfg all terrains.... might have a half tred set of baja claws though dunno for sure...thnx

dont mean to hijack but Id like to know what you guys suggest for a 5 speed with 4.10s?

five speed with 3.55s you have to pull and third low and youll want 35s unless you plan on changing the ratios later on

We are 2 or 2 on breakage with 31575/16 BFG a/ts Wednesday night i wadded up the drive shaft. Last night we twisted the pinion in half so the a/t's will hook. These are on a very tight sled and sticky tracks. We went with those to stretch 3rd low out with 3.55 also. We were having trouble getting ground speed. We had plenty of rpm's but allways just spun the tires out. 4th low was to big of a jump and the sbc 3850 didnt like that.

My buddy runs a 12v with a 4500 in his reg cab dually He has 4.10 and 235/85/16 courser c/t's and he pulls 4th low all the time and does quite well

Change your gears, or pull 2nd HI

Really?

I have heard it is harder on the driveline to pull in high range? Sorry to hijack..just wondering about high/low range and what gear combos to pull with. So what would the best tire/gear ratio/transfer case set up be?

So like 33" tires with 4.10 gears and 2nd gear, with 4x4 HIGH???

It is harder and less than ideal, but so are 4;10 gears

theorectically, assuming you were turning 4000 rpm your wheel speeds would be as follows

2nd hi 31.5 mph
3rd low 21 mph
4th low 35.1 mph

If you have enough to grab 4th low then thats better yet, but it takes power and will kill your clutch if you dont have the power, depending on the track it may or may not be feasible as well.

you also don't believe in traction bars.

Funny:hehe:

Well we do believe in them but aour fab man that hooks us up with that kind of parts is a farmer too and we have had a crappy spring planting. We wanted to have them on to start the year out with. On the other hand we have pulled that truck for three years and never had any problems. When the d80 goes in his week, it will have bars on it. That and i say the sled operator has it out to get us. Hes 4 for 4.:bang

by the way, you can have 9000 lbs but no hanging weight. I know there was a couple of fat chicks there last night that would have helped a few people out.:hehe:

Those dmaxs were stock chargered.

in my 00 model dually i pulled third low all the time, i had 3:55 gears and 265/75/r16 plus had a detroit truetrack in the d80. in my 03 i have now i pull on the low side and let it shift out to drive in lock the converter up, im running 3:73 gears in 285/70/r17 now and do fine. i say play with it some and see what works best.

A good setup is 4th/ low with 5.13 gears for a 5sp. $.02This is what I pull.

Most guys that I know run these in a 5sp:
3.55/ 3rd low with 35's
4.10/2ndhi with 33's

Low range is also less stessful on your driveline.

If usen 3.55s run 3rd low and 35s or 36 tires and keep at least 4K down the trac I ran that setup and it was very good, I switched to 4.10s and run 32 tire and pull 4rth cept on very sticky clay tracks LOL

clean out your PM box

Ran at dover tonight with 3.55's, 36's and 3rd low I carried 3800 down the track and snuffed at the end...
This is in a 500hp truck$.02
