Has anyone moved the hitch in on a 3rd gen dodge easily. Did you make an all new hitch, factory hitch or something else?

that i dont know i was looking at mine and i hate drilling the frames on these trucks burned up a drill ggrr

My factory hitch is on its way out and a roll pan and regular reese style (beefed up 2nd gen) hitch is going on...I don't think it will be to hard to install with shop equipment:evil

I just made a new one for mine using some 3" angle and 2x 1/4" square tubing. The angle rests on the top of the frame rails under the bed and bolt to the factory top hitch bolt holes, then the square tube is welded to the 2 pieces of angle.

I built a whole new setup but used the center section of the stock hitch. it moved the hitch forward 8in and up 4in. i also ran a support forward and tied it into the frame above the axle.. im loading pics now...

this is the stock center section that cut out and then slid 2x1/4 square tubing through.

here you can see where the 2in square tubing slides through the 3/8 plate that is hooked to the frame by useing the old mounting point of the stock hitch I used 2in 160 pipe that slides through the holes in the frame and mounting brackets, I welded the 2in pipe to the brackets on both sides of the
frame and slipped the 3/8 plate over the 2in pipe and welded this also.

here you can see the 1 1/4 square tubing that hold my sled stops

this is the 2in pipe that I used to reinforce the whole thing, might be over kill
but I think it might help with weight transfer.

this is what the whole thing looks like, the hitch height is 25 3/4 in and the hitch sticks 1in past the talegate so its legal for all pulling classes

hope this helps

Oh I made the roll pan out of steal ridge cap for a metal building.

We make a totally new hitch using 3/8 steel plate with a 4x4 square tube running across with the holes cut out of the plate and weld the tube all the way around. Then bolt the hitch onto the bottom of the frame with 3-4 bolts on each side. We cal also add bump stops to the setup as well.

thats some nice work and design full pull!! just some advice to others who do that alot of places would not let u pull 2.6 or 2.8 with the tube u added from hitch to center of frame above rearend. im not picking on work or design. i wish i could add one to my hitch:rules:

all the rules that I have read say you can not brace the hitch forward of the centerline of the rear axle.

ive seen one of the hitches that wes makes and it was a really nice piece very well built
