3rd Gen Radio/Amplifier Question.

So....learn me this.

On the 3rd gen quad/mega cabs with premium sound (infinity), the amplifier is only connected to the REAR speaker outputs of the head unit. There aren't any FRONT speaker connections between the head unit and the amplifier in the truck, nor on the diagram. WTH? How does the amplifier discriminate the fader function?

My kids told me the rear speakers have never worked the other night and I had never noticed as I don't typically fade anything. I started to investigate. My Alpine only had REAR sound when I moved the fader. When I went to REAR, all the front speakers were working including the front doors. When I went to FRONT, nothing worked.

I swapped the head unit front output to go to the amp's rear inputs. Now, when I fade to the FRONT, only the front works. I connected the rear door speakers direct to my Alpine head unit's rear outputs, so now the rear work properly.

W.....T......F...... Who designs this stupid schidt? Is there something I'm missing? Is the Fader signal sent from the head unit to the amp over the CAN bus and just default to the FRONT speakers if there is now head unit signal? Anyone know how to explain this witchcraftery?
 
See, no FRONT inputs to the amp, only REAR. And they aren't on another page either. I've examined the entire section of the file. The amp takes one RL input and creates 5 separate channels out of it. How...the....hell....

I see the picture, and it looks like not all of the radio or amplifier is on this diagram. Sure it isn't on another diagram?

Also having issues with the third speed on my flux capacitor. Device bench tests great, even loaded. One spade in the connector is a tad dark. Must be a loose terminal in the connector. I might have this one whooped.

It's been a great week. My Earthquake PA-2150 also died. Effin electronics. I bought it in 1989 and it has already quit! WTH? LOL

Blower Motor Resistor pack problem was the connector. Some big footed passenger must have wacked it. Tighten up the female spades and walla.

Fader issue is resolved as of midnight last night.

Just walked next door to pick up the 4-wheeler after a carburetor rebuild....jumped on it to drive across the grass to our parking lot and it wouldn't even run. Not very happy with them right now. "We test drove it. It ran fine." Horse schidt. I didn't make it 20 feet from the door. They get to work on it again today and had better not ask for any more monies.

Just a whirlwind of crap. I can't wait to retire and live off my children.

So, who has a 2009 Dodge Ram manual in pdf? My version is a 2008. Probably 99% the same, but would like an updated if anyone has it. :D

That looks like something accidentally reverse wiring won't hurt instantly. :hehe:

I have a couple of the 1st gen "OEM" dash-mounted tachs, which are pushing ~ 20 years old.

What's the service life of cheap electronics before something like a tach gets all weird acting?

To many variables. I take really good care of my stuff normally. All my amps, subs, epic center, cross-overs, etc are all from high school purchased in 1989-1992. This amp is the first thing I've had fail....at the 28 year old mark. I'm pretty certain there isn't much manufactured these days with that kind of ROI.
 
Are your bazooka base tubes still working? What about the pioneer tsx30 speakers?

Bazooka tubes. Dude. You just dated yourself. LOL A lot of kids had those...but mainly because they weren't smart enough to run a table saw and calculate cubic feet of air and make enclosures for competition subs. When kicker first released the Solobaric C10's, I bought one of the first sets delivered to the local audio store in Ponca City, OK. Then I moved up to a set of C12's. Still have them. The tubes were easy to make noise by hooking up a few wires, but the cool kids use quality cross-overs and active-EQ's and had something that sounded worth a schidt in the end....not just mid level bass with nothing really lower than 40hz or so.

The real box was the one that had four Solobaric C-15's in a 7th order band-pass enclosure in the back of a VW Rabbit. He owned the audio store and lived in Blackwell where I grew up. He'd turn it up and make all the ALL the menus dance at the Sonic. They would ban him from returning at least once a week. The dayum windows in the store would rattle.

On an infinity system the amp should be built into the speakers.... pretty sure that's how my fronts were on my 2nd gen an how my alpine system is on my 4th gen.

Did you smoke your breakfast? I pulled a speaker out of the rear door panel last night. It said "Infinity" on it and it did not have an amp on it. The amp is above the glove box under the dash.

O, and I forgot. The rear left door speakers had BOTH wires broke inside the boot in the door to pillar connection. What kind of phukkery is that? Once more thing I fixed.

Pull the fronts an see. Unless I'm on glue pretty sure that's how it is. I sold my 2nd gen parts truck that had the speakers so I can't go look.

I believe just the backs use that amp. Maybe the tweeters as well. There should be a lump on the back of the front door speakers.

I'm not wanting to argue with you as I always learn something from conversation, but you realize I'm talking 3rd gen, right? You mentioned 2nd gen truck parts.

I know I am old. LOL, I never had any of the cool stuff, just was the guy who got to hook up everyone else's stuff(well the ones who couldn't afford professional installation LOL).

How about a Pioneer super tuner head unit? :)

I guess it's my bad I was assuming 3rd gen would be similar as my 4th gen shares the same setup I believe. I'm not opening the door to find out lol


I really wanna know for sure there's no amp on the back of your speakers. I get you had your hands on one in the glove box but from reading online there should be on the back of the front door speakers even in a 3rd gen. so if anyone has time to pop one out an peak I'd like to see.

Started with an Alpine, then a Clarion, then a Pioneer Super Tuner III, then back to Alpine for the last two.
