Hey guys, any one have the cummins numbers handy for the good 4 hole int. gaskets? I keep having issues blowing them out, the thin paper ones are really junk, and lately im thinking the lead ones are not much better? I got a much thicker "pink" gasket last time for the larger plate underneath and was curious if cummins will offer the smaller 4 holer in the same material, it seems to be a much better gasket than the paper ones ive used before it. Thanks
Ryan

You might try a steel or aluminum core long intake plate gasket from Haisley. The nice '4 hole' or toaster grid gaskets are much nicer than the paper gasket which as far as I know is the only one available for the long intake plate from Cummins. I am using steel core gaskets from Haisley for both grid heater gaskets and the long gasket. Holding good, but only at 70psi.

Thanks guys for the advice and part numbers, I will check them out tomorrow. Ryan

I've been running the same Haisley hat and intake plate gaskets for about 3 or 4 years now with zero issues, it's a no brainier and they are not expensive.

hondabond #4

after you clean it up and bolt it together the first time when you later remove the elbow you dont even have to clean the stuff off, just another thin film and bolt it back together

unless the mating surfaces are really bad it will hold to at least 150 psi

(i know this from my air compressor...to me 70 psi of boost and 'only' dont belong in same sentance)

lol

Never heard of this stuff, who makes it and where's it available? Thanks in advance. Ryan

Thanks Jim, Im tring to get in touch with them, I also have Cummins in a search for a better gasket maybe in a diff. application..... if I find something good I'll sure post the part numbers here.

Four types of liquid gasket are used on Acuras:
Ultra Flange Sealant, Hondabond HT, Hondabond 4,
and Ultra Flange II Sealant. Here’s some info on each
one. For specific applications, refer to the appropriate
S/M.
Ultra Flange Sealant P/N: 08718-0003
Color: Gray Consistency: Average
Use it on some gaskets to seal critical areas as
specified in the S/Ms. It can also be used for most
gasketless applications except engine oil pans. (To
seal gasketless oil pans, use Ultra Flange II Sealant.)
Don’t use it on parts not specified in the S/Ms
because it can lubricate gaskets or seals and dislodge
them.
Hondabond HT P/N: 08718-0001
Color: Gray Consistency: Average
Same uses as Ultra Flange Sealant.
Hondabond 4 P/N: 08717-0004
Color: Light gray Consistency: Thin
Use it on some gaskets to seal critical areas as
specified in the S/Ms. Never use it on gasketless
surfaces.
Ultra Flange II Sealant P/N: 08718-0009
Color: Gray Consistency: Thick
This is the only sealant recommended for the
gasketless oil pan on the ’98 2.3CL. It’s also the
preferred sealant for most gasketless applications.
New Pan Gasket and
S/M Fix for 2.3CL
The engine oil pan on ’98 2.3CLs has a liquid
gasket instead of a pre-formed gasket like the 2.2CL.
To replace the gasket, use Ultra Flange II Sealant,
P/N 08718-0009. It’s packaged in a 4-ounce
pressurized can that’s very easy to use. All you do is
make sure the block and pan surfaces are clean and
dry, apply a 4-mm-wide bead of the sealant around
the block mating surface, put some in each oil pan
bolt hole, and then install the pan. Ultra Flange II
seals better than a pre-formed gasket, and it holds up
well to vibration and thermal expansion.
To show its usage in the ’98 2.3CL S/M, correct
page 8-12 like this:
ABS Diagnosis With
PGM Tester
The PGM Tester can be used to diagnose the
ABS and retrieve ABS DTCs on these vehicles:
• ’97 Integra Type R
• ’98 Integra
• ’97-98 2.5/3.2TL
• ’98 3.5RL
To retrieve ABS DTCs on other models except
the SLX, you need to connect the SCS Service
Connector to the Service Check Connector and
read the flash codes (see section 19 of the
appropriate S/M). On the SLX, insert a jumper
wire between the SCS Service Connector terminals
to read the flash codes (see section 5A4 of the SLX
S/M).
What Are ETM View
and Photo Numbers?
The next time you look at a circuit schematic in
an ETM, you might notice a PHOTO number and
(on most newer ETMs) a VIEW number below
each connector. The PHOTO number refers to a
photo (near the back of the book) that shows the
connector’s location in the vehicle. The VIEW
number refers to an illustration (at the very back of
the ETM, right after the photos) that shows the
connector’s shape, face, wire colors, and cavity
numbers.
Here are two examples of VIEW and PHOTO
numbers:

This is what ive found in a search, it may be good stuff but it sure says dont use it gasketless? Im still looking....

I think Hondabond HT is I buy from the local honda dealer, it $20 per tube but the best stuff I've used.

I ask, how many times do you want to do this? Do it right the first time, get the Haisley Flat-Out gaskets and be done with it. They are reuseable as well. I wouldn't say that for the Cummins gaskets. You can also add Yamabond or Hi Tack gasket maker to the Cummins gasket to help hold in the extra pressure.

I hear ya, just finding all the options available. Ya the Haisleys stuff is the flat-out gaskets... prices are all about the same between the 2. Part numbers are #1039 for the paper coated steel insert at ~ 13.00 each and the #1039c is a rubber coated copper gasket at ~ 16.00 each. The intake I built for my truck is a twin pipe design that wye's over the valve covers and has 2 flanges bolted to a 1/2" thick plate made from scratch, If they blow again I will check them for flatness again and surface if needed. Things do tend to crawl around a small amout while welding, The end that connects to the charger is the part I had Joe H. machine for me to have a "leak free" and no rubber connection style Int. system. the #4 (hondabond) is around 5 bucks/tube

i had to laugh when i read that deal above, where it said 'never use it w/o a gskt. its motorcycle stuff and thats the ONLY way we use it, w/o a gasket. lol. what ever...the stuff is crazy

have you ever split the cases on a motorcycle engine? well thats the stuff you use to keep em from leakin when you put it back together

don

ps - yes, avail at any honda motorcycle dealer

pps- they also sell their version of loctite for 1/2 the cost and it comes in a tube/bottle that has a nice little tip on it. makes it easy to use just one drop, or 3 drops, or what you are looking for. i hate loctites packaging

Cummins has me 8 of the discontinued "pink" gaskets comming to give them a try, he said thier nearly impossable to find anymore and are lots better?? Who knows but i'll give them a try and post a number when i get them in my hands. Thanks guys.
Ryan

Try the locktite gel...It's packaged pretty nicely. Salty though.
