hey guys i was driving my truck today up the road and i got off the highway and the convertor wouldent unlock unless i pull it down to first or put it in nuetral its a 47re in a 97 it has a goerend valve body and convertor has anyone else had a issue like that im thinking its in the electrical part of it any input

First thing i would do is check the lockup wire at the connecter where it goes into the VB... Just start the truck, leave it in park and check to see if it has ground. If it has ground, then the wire must be frayed or for some reason is getting a ground signal when it shouldnt be. You will at least know it isnt internal this way.

Im pretty sure its orange with a black tracer and is in a connector with some other wires over on the passenger side of the transmission.

Ok guys I've checked wiring its all good and normal now is there any valves in the valve body that can stick or break

ya if you drop the pan and look at the bottom of the vb there are two solenoids that are side by side and look the same, they are in a pack together ones for lock up and the others for OD, they could be going bad or the valves they move are sticking

i would say pull the vb, take it apart, and pull the solenoids and make sure the valves are moving freely with your fingers, if they move nicely then the solenoid is probably bad, they arent too expensive at dacco, i think 50-100bux im not sure off the top of my head, the vb isnt bad to tear down just dont lose your balls and remember where they go and you will be fine

could be completely different i have a ca truck with emissions computer swapped pcms to an out of state one and it wouldnt kick out of lock up either i put my stock pcm back on and then i didnt have lock up anymore u can cut that wire and put a switch in ur truck manually gounding it out so at least u can figure out if its the solinoid or computer/electrical issue and u can daily drive it if its ur dd untill u get the $ to fix it thats what ive done atleast...

Sorry guys I haven't got back on here but I got it figured out it was a spring on the lockup valve in the bottom of the valve body
