I need a little help, and was hoping someone can steer me right.
Here the deal. This guy has an 2000 dodge auto. The truck has an Edge comp on it and always ran very well for all that was done to it. The guy bought a Jasper transmission and Triple disc converter when his began to slip. He had it installed someplace besides here so I'm kinda in the middle. I mentioned Suncoast like a billion times before he went with Jasper.
Anyway...... The truck just seems doggy now, and he brought it to us to see whats up. It's all good as far as boost and fuel pressure. The engine just seems to be laboring. Like you need more pedal to do the same work it did before the tranny swap. Whats the deal? I talked to a Jasper rep thinking maybe the converter was a little tight? He told me that a torque converter doesn't effect power output. At that point I realized he was not on the same page as me. Any input would be appreciated.

My thinking.........With the old trans/tc, it was slipping and the motor would feel more peppy because of less resistance from the tranny.
Now, the tranny is putting full power to the ground, therefore, it feels like the truck has less horsepower.
That's my best guess.

That's exactly it. The triple has a lower stall than his factory one so it feels doggier now cause the engine isn't revving as high to take off. Also, a triple weighs more than a single so it takes a little longer to get things moving than a single would. When I say a little longer I'm talking 1/10's of a second.

Nope...trucks feel like it has 100 more hp with a good tranny...all the power is going to the ground, instead of slipped and wasted;)

Good luck Jeff...I'm not much on tranny troubleshooting, but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Maybe it's stuck in a couple gears? Also...if the converter is too tight, it can be sluggish off boost, but once you light the charger, it should be fine.

I'm assuming stock charger?? If so, even my DTT was happy lighting it off under 1500RPM...not what I'd call doggy!

Chris

BTW...got that cooler...note to self, next time, ask price...my price that was listed was WAY different:hehe:

Thats what I was thinking. I've change out a couple of stock converters to the Suncoast triple and it was like...."Yeah, thats better" More in the seat type power. I think the converter is too tight.
It runs as good on level 4 as it used to on level 2. Maybe it's built for Nascar. Jasper has a race car so they should know what they're doing:hehe::bang

A tight convertor will make people feel the truck is slow. I had several people I set up with convertors tell me that their truck felt slower. They took them to the track and saw otherwise. What they were hearing is the engine would rev super fast and the revving was associated with engine performance.

Just cause it is a triple, it doesn't mean the stall is lower. I have a triple that the stall is way higher than stock.

True, but many of the cheaper convertors are saying lower stall and they aren't. Friend got a roadrunner convertor and the guy said it was a low stall. My truck and his truck, both stock(mine had the stock convertor still) would both rev to 2200 stall. Guy kept swearing that it was a lower stall.

Hummm... Interesting. The truck has lost fuel mileage. Down to 17 from 21. It almost feels like a brake is hanging up. It also downshifts kinda while coasting down hill. Like and exhaust brake. It's weird I tell ya.
